Rasam Powder ( Rasam Podi)
Ingredients:
Dry Red Chilies - 1 cup
Coriander seeds - 1/4 cup
Pepper cons - 2 tbsp
Fenugreek seeds (venthayam) - 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 2 tbsp
Mustard - 1 tbsp
Red Gram (Tuavaram paruppu) - 1 tbsp
Asafoetida (Perungayam) - a small piece
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Oil
Method:
- Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan, fry the dry red chilies in a low flame for 5-7 mins. Once done allow it to cool.
- Now fry each ingredient (Coriander seeds, Pepper cons, Fenugreek seeds, Cumin seeds, Mustard, Red Gram, Asafoetida, Turmeric powder) separately with out adding oil.
- Finally when the fried ingredients comes to room temperature, grained red Chilies first and then add other fried ingredients and grained them to fine powder.
- Now transform the powder to an air tight container.
- The Rasam Powder or podi is ready. You can use this powder while preparing rasam, just add 1 or 2 tsp of Rasam powder or podi while preparing Rasam.
- This Rasam powder gives you a great taste.
